Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC)
CRDC (Cotton Research and Development Corporation) supports the Australian cotton industry through research, innovation and collaboration. As the organisation evolved, there was a need to strengthen its brand presence — moving from a traditional government identity to a more contemporary, corporate brand that could stand independently while still reflecting its role within the industry.

The Challenge
CRDC’s existing identity felt aligned with a government aesthetic, which limited its ability to communicate as a modern, forward-thinking organisation. The challenge was to develop a more refined and flexible brand that would elevate its presence, while still maintaining credibility with a broad stakeholder group.
In addition, CRDC required the ability to communicate complex strategic information clearly across reports, plans and physical environments.
Our Approach
Black Canvas was engaged to lead the evolution of CRDC’s brand identity. We developed a new logo and visual direction that shifted the organisation toward a more corporate, standalone presence — while remaining appropriate for its industry and stakeholders.
Beyond the core identity, we applied the brand across a range of outputs, including strategic plan graphics, detailed communication materials and large-scale exhibition and display assets. Our focus was on creating a cohesive visual system that could support both high-level messaging and complex information.
The Outcome
The result is a more confident and contemporary brand that better reflects CRDC’s role within the industry. The updated identity provides a strong foundation for consistent communication, while the supporting materials improve how complex information is presented and understood.
